ГабалаGabala is a popular tourist center due to the numerous preserved historical monuments, a warm mild climate and the stunning beauty of the Caucasus mountains. The main attractions of the city are the Albanian Church "Jotari" (IV – VIII centuries), the village of Nij, where a unique architectural monument is located - the Udi Temple, archaeological excavations in the ancient city of Gabala (Gyadim Gabala). The Udins are considered to be the descendants of the ancient Albanians and are a very special ethnic group (there are only 10,000 of them left). They managed to preserve their language and cultural traditions until today. Most recently, the temple was restored and is now open for tourists.

 

Nohur Lake

Nohur Lake is located at the entrance to the city of Gabala, in a natural groove among the mountains Gyuliburun, Goydag and Yumuru. Nohur Lake, which existed as a natural lake until 1949, covered with dense reeds and aquatic plants, was a lake with yellowish-green water, with a deep recess in the central part. In 1949, a reservoir was built in the southern part of this lake. The water of the Demiraparan and Vandam rivers spills into the Nohurgyshlag reservoir.

This lake is one of the most visited within the village near the highway Gabala - Ismayilli - Baku. Nokhurgyshlag reservoir makes a great contribution to the development of aquaculture and rowing.

 

Ancient Gabala (I c.)

The town has 50 hectares of land on which the houses were located, this is reported by the found dishes and numerous souvenirs. The excavated layer is already quite large, and its thickness is 5 meters, and in addition to everything found during excavations, objects such as foci, pits, tandirs, as well as underground water pipes and ceramics in huge quantities were found. Nij is a large village in the Gabala region of the Republic of Azerbaijan, with an area of ​​about 100 km². It is a place of compact residence of Udi tribes. Nij is surrounded by cultivated land, as well as built up houses with large plots of land planted with fruit trees.

The park can be visited at any time of the day or year, and here you can enjoy a great pastime and feel much better. There are attractions for both adult tourists and the smallest ones - “Butterfly Swing”, “Spider” and so on. Mausoleum of Imam Baba

Mausoleum of Sheikhs

Mausoleums and stone graves in the village of Khazra in the Gabala region are one of the most significant historical monuments of the region. The cemetery has four mausoleums and many tombstones. Both mausoleums - Sheikhs Badraddin and Muhammad - belong to the Shirvan-Absheron School of Architecture and date back to the XVth century. The graves around the mausoleum belong to prominent representatives of the feudal nobility, and also belong to the XV-XVIth centuries. On the walls of the mausoleums and on the graves inscriptions in Arabic script are engraved, on many you can see complex patterns - in the form of flowers and various symbols. During past archaeological excavations around the mausoleum, graves of the XII-XIIIth centuries were discovered. The complex is located in a dense forest. The tomb of Sheikh Mansour also has the shape of an octagon, however, the inner walls are quadrangular.
